MPS Fashion Photography is honored to name Brianna Capozzi its Artist in Residence for 2018-2019.

Brianna Capozzi is one of the most exciting names working in fashion photography today. Creating imagery in which women are portrayed as empowered, she draws on feminist themes within contemporary popular culture.

Based in New York, Brianna grew up in New Jersey and studied fashion design at Parsons School of Design. Her eye for the cut and construction of a garment evident in her work, she often shoots self-portraits of herself wearing the clothing ahead of an editorial shoot. Within her photography the females she captures appear entangled in the clothing they wear, often striking comical or odd poses.

Her work has appeared in titles such as W, British Vogue, AnOther Magazine, POP, Dazed & Confused, Purple, i-D and Re-Edition and she has shot for brands including Bally, Adidas and Alexander Wang. She recently published a book with Idea Books called ‘Well Behaved Women’ featuring eight women she cites as her muses, including Chloe Sevigny, Hanne Gaby Odiele and her mother Marie Capozzi.

About the Artist in Residence Program

Each year, SVA MPS Graduate Fashion Photography Artist in Residence program names an individual fashion photographer or director whose work contributes to the creative advancement of the medium and provides a  framework for engagement with the graduate students.

Previous recipients include Jamie Hawkesworth, Erik Madigan Heck and Gordon Von Steiner. As part of their commitment to the program, Artists in Residence meet with the MPS Fashion Photography students in the Fall and Spring to critique their work, and share their experiences, and participate in a public speaking engagement at the SVA Theatre.
